We learned something odd in the hospital yesterday.  A nurse came by to ask if we would mind our child being involved in a study of diabetes in children.  One of her questions was to validate that Sandra and I were over the age of 18.

It turns out that if you have a child before you turn 18, legally you are not the ‘legal guardian’ of your child.  Someone else has to give consent to anything being done to that child; say a grandparent or some such.
